80’s Color Scheme Striping Tape Mani

Just a little striping tape mani for today…  I noticed these nail polish dots dried on my pallet card from another design I did in the past & thought these colors would look good in a design together so I went for it, lol…

Looked good on paper, lol… I think it turned out pretty good.  I used Nina Ultra Pro French White as a base for Pure Ice Busted.  I used 2 coats of that then applied striping tape to each nail.  I didn’t want straight lines so I curved them a bit.  It does cause the seal to buckle a bit, paint can seep underneath so be extra careful, or if you use topcoat before you apply the tape you can carefully use a fine brush with acetone to touch up the lines without ruining the base color.

The teal color is LA Girl Tropical, the blue is Color Club Chelsea Girl, and the purple color is Rimmel Wild Orchid.  Whoops, just a little paint smearing with the topcoat… It happens sometimes, lol, enjoy!

Neon Superhero Suit Tape Mani

20140124-164817.jpg

Yep, that’s a mouthful, lol…. Anyways, I’m slowly getting through my stash of polishes I bought last week & I’m loving it! I’m holding off on buying anything else until I use what I got… Well, unless it’s something I really need or can’t pass up, lol…  So this is Sinful Colors matte finish in Savage and Dream On with a China Glaze Sun Worshipper pin stripe courtesy of striping tape to pull it off…  It was tricky no doubt : (  Initially I intended to have a wider strip using painters tape but then I realized my nails aren’t that long, I wouldn’t have room for Dream On after the reverse chevron so I went for striping tape thickness instead : (

Lol, I think I need to make my images smaller, you can see every little thing!  I know there are a few little goofs from trying to paint the blue on without crossing the thin little striping tape line… It was much easier with the fuchsia painting within a V instead of toward a point.  I love the color combo, I’m loving the matte formulas and I like using striping tape in this way, but it does take patience and well, patience!  The left came out better than the right and I’m surprised to see all the little things in the right hand pic that you can’t see in real life, lol… Obviously the blue bleed over, but it’s hardly noticeable in everyday life, so I can live with it for now : )

I painted Sun Worshipper on earlier today with a top coat of CND Air Dry… A couple hours later I applied striping tape in a reverse chevron french tip I guess you could say and I painted the other colors finger by finger removing the tape before the paint got too dry… I put the blue on first and was able to wipe it off if it got over the line, a little anyway… I also used a brush dipped in acetone to remove any left over smudges, it works if you do it quickly, don’t use too much acetone and don’t go over a lot because eventually you’ll get through the top coat and start taking off color… Which still isn’t a big deal since I was painting over it, but don’t go crazy, lol…  I left them with no top coat over the matte finish for the final design.

Of course after cuticle clean up I forgot to moisturize so that looks like crap again, but I promise I finally got around to cleaning myself up… I buffed my nail ridges and shined my nails up soooo nice yesterday, it was gorgeous, my nails felt so smooth and looked so shiny… I have proof, lol, I’ll make a post about it tomm… But for now, more moisturizing after the acetone abuse of today, lol…
